The first written reference to the operation of a coke oven dates back to 1840. At that time, the furnace was operated by approximately 100 workers. During that time, the coke oven changed many owners. The last coke battery was shut down in 1997. After that year, the coking plant was closed down and the site has gradually deteriorated until today. (A little tip: there is a watchdog on site.)
