In the past, various markets such as egg, butter and poultry markets were located in these places. All sales were then made from wooden booths or counters shaded only by parasols, so there was little talk of hygiene and sales culture. For this reason, the councillors decided to build the market as a roofed building. In 1897, a four-storey Neo-Renaissance building was built with two entrances, a café, a taproom, shops and offices.
