- Where did the count disappear to? The abandoned castle

Hello, urban explorers, on January 30, 2026, I set out for a relatively well-known location, which I honestly expected to be in significantly worse condition. I was all the more surprised when I entered the Baroque part of the building, which literally proved me wrong.
The place still retains a strong atmosphere—original old furniture, endless long corridors, high ceilings, and an overall impression that time has stopped here for a moment. Despite its abandonment, you can still feel the former nobility and significance of this place.

History of the castle A medieval fortress originally stood on the site of today's building, with the first written records dating back to the end of the 15th century. It served as the seat of the minor nobility and the administrative center of the surrounding estate. At that time, it had primarily a defensive function, which, however, lost its significance over time, and the building was gradually modified for more comfortable living.
A fundamental change came in the first half of the 18th century, when the original fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque castle between 1731 and 1738. A four-winged building with an enclosed courtyard was created, which no longer served for defense, but for representation and estate administration. At this time, significant structural alterations were made and opulent interiors were created in keeping with Baroque architecture.
During the 19th century, the significance of the building gradually changed. The original aristocratic residence became primarily an administrative and economic building, and its interior layout was adapted accordingly. Its representative function gave way to practicality and everyday use.
After the establishment of an independent state in the 20th century, the building gradually lost its original purpose. After nationalization in 1948, it was used for various civilian purposes, which had a negative impact on its technical condition. Nevertheless, in 1958, it was declared a cultural monument, thus gaining at least basic monument protection.
The building is currently privately owned, not normally open to the public, and bears clear signs of long-term neglect. Despite this, it still retains its original Baroque layout and the powerful atmosphere of past centuries, which is particularly evident in the preserved interiors.

Reprezentativní funkce ustoupila praktičnosti a každodennímu provozu.
